Large Surface Bowl in brown-black glaze (35cm diameter).

The Surface Bowl brings together our longstanding interest in geology and industrial landscapes with the influence of 1960s studio pottery. The bowl edges suggest flakes of rusted metal or fractured slate, echoing the softer shapes of flowers and petals.

The bowl is part of our Surface Ground collection; a study of the landscape around us in Pembrokeshire, and of the ways material, weather, use and time become visible at its surface.

This bowl is handmade in Abergwaun, Wales, using locally sourced stoneware clay, blended with grog to create a unique speckled finish on every piece. Each bowl is made by hand, embracing slight variances and a bit of wonkiness. We believe that these subtle differences make each piece one-of-a-kind, with a character that you can feel in your hands.
